Christmas Tree Farms of Central Minnesota

Is there anything more magical than the scent of fresh pine, the crunch of snow under your boots, and the hunt for the perfect holiday centerpiece? We don’t think so!

If you’re looking to start a new tradition or continue a cherished one, you don’t need to travel far. Greater St. Cloud is surrounded by winter wonderlands that are just a short sleigh ride (or a 10-20 minute drive) away. From horse-drawn wagon rides to hot cider by the bonfire, here is your guide to the jolliest Christmas tree farms right in our backyard.

Grab your mittens and your camera—it’s time to find the tree that makes you say, “It’s A Beaut, Clark!”

  1. B&J Evergreen (Clear Lake)

The “Holiday Festival” Experience

If you want to turn tree-shopping into a full-blown holiday event, B&J Evergreen is the place to be. Located just southeast of St. Cloud in Clear Lake, this farm is buzzing with activity on the weekends. It’s not just about chopping down a Balsam Fir; it’s about the experience.

  • Why We Love It: It is incredibly family-friendly. On weekends, you can often find a petting zoo, pony rides, and even visits from Santa himself!
  • The Vibe: Energetic, festive, and perfect for kids who need to burn off some sugar-cookie energy.
  • Don’t Miss: Their “famous camel” (yes, a Christmas camel!) who loves a good selfie and this year is a new young camel.

2.Hinkemeyer Tree Farm (Rice)
The “Classic Country Christmas” Experience

Just a quick 10-minute hop north on Highway 10 brings you to Hinkemeyer Christmas Tree Farm in Rice. This farm feels like stepping into a Hallmark movie. They have perfected the cozy, nostalgic atmosphere that makes you want to stay all afternoon.

  • Why We Love It: They offer horse-drawn wagon rides and sleigh rides that transport you to the fields in style. Afterward, you can warm up in their heated gift shop with a cup of hot cider.
  • The Vibe: Traditional, warm, and picture-perfect.
  • Don’t Miss: The campfire! There is nothing quite like roasting s’mores after hauling in your prize-winning spruce.

3. Jan’s Christmas Trees (Clear Lake)
The “Fun & Games” Experience

Located near B&J in Clear Lake, Jan’s Christmas Trees offers a unique twist on the traditional tree farm. While they have beautiful trees (over 12 species!), they are also known for bringing some serious fun to the table.

  • Why We Love It: They often host unique activities that go beyond the norm—think helicopter rides for the adventurous and axe throwing for the grown-ups. It’s a place where you can make memories that go way beyond just picking a tree.
  • The Vibe: Playful, adventurous, and spirited.
  • Don’t Miss: The gift shop is a treasure trove of holiday decor, jams, and jellies that make for perfect stocking stuffers.

4. Petersen Tree Farm (Clear Lake)
The “Peaceful Nature” Experience

If you prefer a quieter, more serene experience where you can really connect with nature, head to Petersen Tree Farm. Also in the Clear Lake area, this 225-acre farm focuses on a pure, pesticide-free forestry experience.

  • Why We Love It: It’s a breath of fresh air—literally. The setting is rustic and simple, focusing on the beauty of the woods.
  • The Vibe: Serene, natural, and authentic.
  • Don’t Miss: The hot apple cider and the free shaking and baling service to make getting your tree home a breeze.

5. The Tree Farm (Rice)
The “Local & Fresh” Experience

Located in Rice, The Tree Farm is a third-generation family operation that knows a thing or two about evergreens. Recently moving their main operations from a city lot back to their home farm, they offer a wonderful selection of locally grown trees.

  • Why We Love It: You get the convenience of a pre-cut lot with the freshness of a farm. They cut their trees fresh from their own fields, so you know you are getting a tree that will last through the season.
  • The Vibe: Friendly, knowledgeable, and convenient.
  • Don’t Miss: Chatting with the owners—they have been doing this since 1954 and love sharing stories with families who return year after year.
