Breen Hotel, accompanied by the Sherman Theater, was a dominant presence in historic downtown St. Cloud. Opened in 1921, the luxury hotel and theater were the perfect complement for those visiting St. Cloud. Later, the theater was renamed Paramount and the hotel renamed Germain Hotel with the first floor converted to office and retail space.

Added to the National historic building registry, the vintage auditorium of the Paramount has been refitted several times, including after a fire in 1985. A large community effort in the 1990’s restored the theater and updated the seating for modern audiences. Breen Hotel, now Germain Towers, has been divided into first floor retail space for the Paramount gift gallery and Wimmer Optical as well as theater offices and upper floor apartment housing. The building is owned and managed by the City of St. Cloud with the Paramount operating as an independent non-profit.
