819 W. St. Germain

The building located at 819 W. St Germain was built in 1888. Designed by Allen E. Hussey, some prominent features of the building include red brick walls, wood floors and stamped tin ceilings. Also worth noting are the granite sills on the third story, and ornate granite on the first floor street entrance. At the top of the building, a gray granite stone reads “Hunstiger and Co. A.D.1888.

Originally this structure was home to Hunstiger City Meat Market, which was started by German born butcher Joseph Hunstiger. The business was continued by Hunstiger’s sons Frank and Joseph Jr until 1929. Over the years, the building has been home to many businesses including a Piggly Wiggly store, a watch shop, a sports store, and the Townhouse Bakery which occupied the space from 1971 to 2004. Currently, the space is home to a digital marketing agency; Badcat Digital.
